Manchester United will look to finish the season strongly when they face Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

The Red Devils had been in a poor run of form prior to a crucial 3-2 win over Newcastle United on Wednesday night, a result which moved them level on points with the Magpies.

Manager Erik ten Hag continues to face intense speculation surrounding his own future, with rumours suggesting that the Dutchman could be replaced this summer.

In the meantime, though, it appears that the club are keen to sign one of the top scorers in the Premier League this season.

As per talkSPORT, United are interested in Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.

The Englishman has been in fine form this season and looks certain to be included in England manager Gareth Soutgate’s provisional squad for the European Championships, which is announced on Tuesday.

Watkins has been in sensational form for Villa this season

Watkins, 28, has scored 27 goals in 52 games across all competitions so far this term including 19 in 36 Premier League matches.

Despite United’s interest in the Englishman, the report claims that a move for Watkins would likely prove very difficult to complete for a number of factors.

Firstly, the striker signed a new long-term contract with Villa last year, which is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.

The Villans would therefore demand a huge fee to even consider selling Watkins, and the player himself may not be keen on the idea as Villa have recently qualified for next season’s Champions League while United may have to settle for a place in the Europa Conference League.

United are said to be considering a move to sign a forward this summer to provide competition for places with current first choice striker Rasmus Hojlund.

The club will, however, first have to offload fringe players in order to lower their wage bill.
