Manchester United are reportedly lining up a £22m January bid for Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi.

Danny Blind has been a regular alongside Chris Smalling at the heart of the Red Devils’ defence this season, but manager Louis van Gaal is keen to bring a specialist centre-half to Old Trafford during the winter transfer window.

The Germany international was part of his national side’s World Cup winning campaign in Brazil last summer, and he has shone for the La Liga outfit so far this term.

Mustafi has made 44 appearances in all competitions for Valencia since making the move from Sampdoria in 2014, scoring five goals.

Quite right too. United have started off OK, but they will win nothing while van Gaal insists on playing wingers as full backs and a midfielder as a centre back. Two world class players for every position, that is what is needed. In some positions United don’t have one world class player.

To buy a new center back is ok, but Jones and Smalling should be playing there while Blind should move to left full back alongside Rojo. Rojo can be doubling for center back and left full back.
