Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is lining up a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, according to The Manchester Evening News.

The 28-year-old was a key part of the Blues side which comfortably won the Premier League title this term, appearing in 35 of their 38 Premier League games, and laying on seven assists for Antonio Conte’s side.

The Serbia international and PFA Player of the Year N’Golo Kante struck up quite the central midfield partnership for the champions this season, but they may not play together again as Matic’s former boss Mourinho is reportedly attempting to land the 28-year-old this summer.

It was the Portuguese boss who brought Matic back to the Premier League in 2014, just three years after being sold by the club, and it was he who helped Mourinho win a third league title at Stamford Bridge, as well as the League Cup in 2015.

And the United boss is hoping to reunite with the Serbia midfielder at Old Trafford as he looks to build a side capable of replicating his success at Chelsea in Manchester.

Although he led them to two trophies this season, the League Cup and Europa League, Mourinho will be under pressure to significantly improve upon their sixth place finish in the Premier League, and greater midfield steel and experience could be key in his quest to do just that.

And with talks reportedly already having taken place between Matic and United, it looks like he could be the man Mourinho turns to in a bid to bring league success back to Old Trafford.
