Manchester United face Scottish side Rangers in an important Europa League group phase game on Thursday night.

The Red Devils currently sit seventh in the table – one place above Rangers – with only the top eight teams qualifying automatically for the knockout stage of the competition.

Teams finishing between ninth place and 24th place will enter into a play-off to secure a place in the first knockout round, and United head coach Ruben Amorim will be desperate for his side to avoid having to play a two-legged play-off during an already hectic schedule.

In the meantime, it has emerged that the Manchester club have lowered their asking price for an in-demand attacker.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio via 90min, Manchester United are now demand a package worth £54.9 million for winger Alejandro Garnacho.

The report claims that United may have to sell senior players this month in order to ensure they adhere to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, and Garnacho is one of those that they would consider selling.

Garnacho is valued by Manchester United at around £55 million

It is claimed that Napoli have identified the winger as a potential replacement for Paris Saint-Germain-bound Khvicha Kvaratshkelia, while Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested in the Argentine.

Formerly part of Atletico Madrid’s youth system, the 20-year-old joined the Red Devils in 2020 and has since forced his way into the first team squad at Old Trafford.

He has now played 118 times for the club across all competitions, scoring 23 goals and registering 14 assists.

It was previously believed that United would demand a fee of £60 million for the Argentina international, but the report claims that the club have lowered their asking price.

Napoli are said to be hoping to agree a deal for £46.4 million, but United’s decision to lower their asking price has given the Serie A side belief that a deal could be reached this month.

Garnacho, who primarily plays on the left but can also operate centrally or on the right, is contracted to United until June 2028.
