Manchester United will be hoping to return to winning ways when they face Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

The Red Devils have started the new season inconsistently, winning just two of their four Premier League matches so far.

United were fortunate to beat Wolves on the opening weekend of the season, and also had to come from two goals down to beat Nottingham Forest a fortnight later.

Erik ten Hag’s side have succumbed to defeats against both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, leaving them 11th in the table after four games.

The Dutchman will be hoping that new signing Sofyan Amrabat will be able to help improve his side when domestic football returns, following his loan move from Italian side Fiorentina on deadline day.

Now, it has emerged that United also tried to complete another signing on the final day of the transfer window.

As per Football Insider, the Manchester outfit considered a late move for Brentford full-back Rico Henry.

Henry emerged as a target for Manchester United this summer

The report claims that United identified Henry as a potential target as they searched for cover at left-back following injuries to left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

The Red Devils instead signed Sergio Reguilon on loan from rivals Tottenham Hotspur, but it appears that the Bees are aware that Henry has attracted significant attention.

Henry, 26, joined Brentford from Football League side Walsall in 2016 and played a key role in helping Thomas Frank’s side secure promotion to the top flight in 2021.

In total the Englishman has made 202 appearances for Brentford across all competitions, including 75 in the Premier League.

The report also claims that Henry is on the verge of being handed his first senior England call-up following Shaw’s injury.

Henry has been capped at both under-19 and under-20 level for his country, and the report claims that he is in Southgate’s plans.
