Manchester United were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by FC Twente in their Europa League group phase opener on Wednesday.

Erik ten Hag appeared to have eased the pressure on his shoulders by guiding his side to convincing wins over Southampton and Barnsley, but a goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday raised doubts once again.

Christian Eriksen had put United in front against their Dutch opponents at Old Trafford, but they were unable to find a winner after Sam Lammers drew the visitors level in the second half.

The Red Devils face Tottenham Hotspur next in a match that could have significant ramifications for both Ten Hag and his opposite number Ange Postecoglou.

In the meantime, United are reportedly hoping to secure the long-term futures of two of their young stars.

As reported by Sky Sports, the Manchester club are preparing negotiations over new contracts for midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and winger Amad Diallo.

Mainoo could be in line for a new contract at Manchester United

Mainoo and Diallo are currently contracted to United until 2027 and 2025 respectively, but the report states that Ten Hag is keen to ‘reward’ the pair with new deals.

Midfielder Mainoo, 19, and 22-year-old Diallo have both been involved in all five of United’s Premier League matches so far this season.

Mainoo is a product of United’s youth academy and forced his way into the first team ahead of the start of last season, before suffering a significant injury.

When he returned, he was hugely impressive for Ten Hag’s side, and his form earned him a place in the England squad for the European Championships.

Diallo, meanwhile, joined the club from Italian side Atalanta in the summer of 2021 and has since spent time on loan at Rangers and Sunderland.

He has played 28 times for United across all competitions, and has started four of their five league games so far this term.

The report says that Ten Hag intends to work with those in charge of the club to finalise new deals for the pair.
