Manchester United suffered a damaging 3-0 defeat against fierce rivals Liverpool on Sunday.

Luis Diaz scored a first-half brace before talisman Mohamed Salah added the Reds’ third at Old Trafford, inflicting a second defeat of the Premier League season on the Red Devils.

Manager Erik ten Hag’s side were beaten by Brighton and Hove Albion last week, and the loss against Liverpool leaves them 14th in the top flight table after three games.

United signed a number of players during the recent summer transfer window, including Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs De Ligt.

Now, though, those in charge of the club have made a surprise u-turn on the future of one of their midfielders.

As per Football Insider, the club are now unlikely to allow Christian Eriksen to depart the club this month.

Although the transfer window is not shut for much of Europe, it remains open for clubs in The Netherlands, Belgium and Turkey and the big-spending Saudi Arabian Pro League.

Eriksen is likely to stay put at Old Trafford until January at least

That means clubs could still make offers for Eriksen, 32, who had been deemed surplus to requirements by United.

Now, though, the Manchester outfit are likely to keep hold of the Dane after Englishman Mason Mount suffered an injury.

The former Chelsea man is expected to miss more than a month of action, and United are therefore likely to keep hold of Eriksen despite rumoured interest from Dutch side Ajax and Belgian club Anderlecht.

Eriksen joined United in the summer of 2022 and has since made 73 appearances for the club across all competitions, although his introduction as a late substitute against Liverpool on Sunday was his first appearance of the season so far.

The Denmark international is now in the final year of his contract, which means the January transfer window will be United’s last chance to cash in on him and avoid allowing the midfielder to leave for free at the end of the season.
