Manchester United and Manchester City are set to miss out on Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse after Saints attempted to price the two clubs out of a move.

According to GiveMeSport, the two Manchester clubs are among a number of sides who have registered an in the Englishman, with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United also interested.

According to the report, though, Saints have priced potential suitors out of a move by putting a £75 million price tag on the player, who signed a new deal with the club last August.

If the Hammers were to meet that figure, it would make the England international the club’s record signing.

Ward-Prowse will be hoping to be included in the England quad for the World Cup later this year

The 27-year-old started 36 Premier League games last season and took his tally for the club to 362 across all competitions.

United are keen on adding at least one midfielder to their ranks this summer, with Frenkie de Jong another name linked with the club.

The player is believed to currently earn around £100,000-per-week and, with his current deal not due to expire until the summer of 2026, Saints are under no pressure to sell.

The midfielder is arguably Southampton’s most important player and has spent the entirety of his senior career with the club, although a move to City or Spurs would likely be tempting due to the added pull of Champions League qualification.
