Manchester United will face their toughest test of the season so far when they welcome rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Red Devils started the campaign with an unconvincing 1-0 win over Fulham, before falling to a last-gasp 2-1 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

That result has piled pressure on manager Erik ten Hag before his side face the Reds in a game that always entertains.

In the meantime, one of United’s midfielders is set to complete a move to an Italian side.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay is set to complete a move to Serie A side Napoli on Thursday.

Romano claims that United have reached an agreement with the Italian side for a fee in the region of £25 million, with the Premier League side set to benefit from a 10% sell-on clause included in the deal.

McTominay is set to join Italian side Napoli

McTominay, 27, has made more than 250 appearances for the Red Devils during his time in the senior side, having made his competitive debut for the club back in 2017.

He has made substitute appearances in both of United’s league games this season, as well as in their Community Shield defeat against rivals Manchester City at Wembley.

The central midfielder has already completed a medical and all relevant documents have now been reviewed and finalised, Romano claims.

United are expected to complete the signing of midfielder Manuel Ugarte from French side Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days, which could be part of the reason why McTominay has been allowed to depart.

The Scotland international’s current contract with United is set to expire in less than a year, making this one of United’s last opportunities to cash in on the player and avoid losing him for free at the end of the current campaign.
