Manchester United fans will be hoping the club can mount a serious title challenge this season, with the signings of Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho adding a touch of class to the side that finished second last season.

Sancho joined from Borussia Dortmund for around £73 million and will play alongside Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes in United’s attack, while Varane was acquired for a cut-price £41 million and will partner Harry Maguire at the heart of defence to add some much needed defensive stability.

Sancho and Varane were both involved in Euro 2020 and therefore both missed the bulk of United’s pre-season, however it appears that the former could be in line to be involved in United’s season curtain-raiser on Saturday.

Sancho was late to join up with United’s pre-season squad after being involved at Euro 2020 with England.

According to The Sun, the 21-year-old could be in line to start against Leeds United on Saturday afternoon, despite only joining United training on Monday.

England teammate Marcus Rashford had been ruled out for a few weeks after undergoing surgery on a shoulder problem, and fellow countryman Jesse Lingard has tested positive for covid-19 and will therefore miss the start of the season.

That leaves boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with only Dan James and Mason Greenwood as wide attacking options, and it appears that the two Englishmen may be given the nod over Welshman James.

The report states that, despite being granted extended holiday after England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy, Sancho kept himself fit with his own training regime and is therefore in a position to be able to be involved from the start on Saturday.
