Manchester United officials are expected in Amsterdam on Tuesday to attempt to complete the signing of Brazilian winger Antony, according to reports.

As per The Sun, the Ajax star is set to become the Red Devils’ first summer signing, and is rumoured to be costing United around £40 million.

The deal will see Antony follow in the footsteps of former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who left the Eredivisie club last month to take over at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman reportedly wants the player to become his first signing in a bid to kickstart his summer rebuild of the club and make United competitive in the Premier League next season.

Antony is a Brazil international

The 22-year-old enjoyed a successful campaign last season, scoring 12 goals and registering ten assists on the way to winning the top flight title.

Antony thanked Ten Hag when the manager departed the Dutch capital, writing ‘I want to thank you for everything you taught me’, although it appears that the pair’s time apart could be short lived.

United boss Ten Hag is keen to oversee a summer overhaul of a squad that last season registered the lowest Premier League points tally in the club’s history under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

The Dutchman is also said to be eyeing a central midfielder and striker this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of ending United’s five-year wait for silverware.
