Manchester United will hope to pick up their first win of the Europa League group phase when they face Fenerbahce on Wednesday night.

Erik ten Hag’s side have endured a very difficult start to the new campaign, winning just four of their 12 matches so far across all competitions.

The Red Devils have drawn both of their Europa League matches so far, against Dutch side FC Twente and Portuguese outfit Porto.

Fenerbahce are now managed by former United boss Jose Mourinho, and the Portuguese will have ex-Red Devils midfielder Fred in his side for the game on Wednesday.

Off the pitch, it appears that United are plotting to sign two new midfielders.

As per GiveMeSport, the Manchester club are planning to sign a new midfielder during the January transfer window, before signing a second next summer.

Eriksen faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford

This is despite United signing Manuel Ugarte from French side Paris Saint-Germain during the recent summer window.

The Uruguay international has played six times for United since joining the club, but he is yet to recreate the form that he displayed for former side Sporting CP prior to his move to Paris.

It is claimed that United are expected to continue their squad rebuild into 2025, with two of their current midfielders facing extremely uncertain futures at Old Trafford.

Veteran central midfielders Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, both 32, could leave the club in the near future, with neither player part of Ten Hag’s long-term plans.

Eriksen’s contract is set to run until the end of the current campaign, while Casemiro’s deal expires in 2026.

With that in mind, United will likely look to add a younger central midfielder to Ten Hag’s squad during the upcoming January window, before adding a second next summer.

The Red Devils are said to be prioritising a focus on signing young players with huge potential.
