Manchester United travel to London to face Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening.

The Red Devils go into the game off the back of a dramatic Manchester derby win over rivals Manchester City on Sunday, when late goals from Bruno Fernandes earned them all three points.

That victory will have buoyed Ruben Amorim’s side, who had suffered back-to-back defeats in their previous two Premier League matches.

Spurs cruised to a 5-0 victory over Southampton last time out, though, and Ange Postecoglou’s side will provide a tough test for the Red Devils on Thursday.

In the meantime, it has emerged that United are interested in one of Serie A’s most highly rated defenders.

As per Italian outlet Tuttosport via GiveMeSport, the Red Devils have identified Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco as one of their top targets as they look to sign a new left-back.

The left side of the backline has become something of a problem position on the pitch for United over the past couple of seasons, with Tyrell Malacia having missed the entirety of last term and England international Luke Shaw having also missed several months due to injury.

Dimarco is said to have snubbed a move to Manchester United

United’s owners, INEOS, and head coach Amorim have drawn up a shortlist of potential targets which includes Dimarco, but it appears that their chances of signing the 27-year-old may already have been dismissed.

That is because the report claims that both Inter Milan and the player himself have already rejected the idea, with neither party willing to entertain the prospect of a deal.

Dimarco is a product of Inter’s youth academy and is a boyhood fan of the club, and the report suggests that he is therefore set to begin talks over an extension to his current contract which is due to expire at the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

The left-back has played a total of 156 times for Inter across all competitions, having spent time on loan at various clubs including Empoli and Hellas Verona.

He also briefly left Inter permanently to join Swiss side FC Sion, before returning to the San Siro in 2018.
