Ruben Amorim will take charge of Manchester United for the first time on Sunday as the Red Devils visit Ipswich Town.

Having been appointed as the permanent successor to Erik ten Hag earlier this month, Amorim officially took charge of United this week.

He will take his side to East Anglia to face the Tractor Boys on Sunday, but Kieron McKenna’s side could provide a tough test for United after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 prior to the international break.

Amorim, left his role with Portuguese champions Sporting CP to take over at Old Trafford, and he has a huge challenge on his hands after the Red Devils endured their worst ever start to a Premier League season under Ten Hag’s management.

One area that has proven to be a particular problem for recent United managers is left-back, and Fabrizio Romano claims that Amorim and those in charge of the club are eyeing reinforcements in that position.

Malacia missed the whole of last season with an injury

Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have missed the entirety of the season so far, with Ten Hag having to deploy the likes of Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez as makeshift left-backs.

Shaw recently made his return to full training and is expected to feature for United in the coming weeks, while Malacia last played in May last year and missed the whole of last term due to injury.

He recently played in an EFL Trophy tie against Huddersfield Town but, despite the duo nearing returns to action, Romano clams that United remain intent on signing a new left-back next year.

The Italian journalist claims that those in charge of recruitment have put together a shortlist of at least three potential targets.

It is also claimed that the Red Devils could look to sign a left-sided full-back in January or next summer, with the latter being more likely.
