The Ruben Amorim era at Manchester United gets underway on Sunday when the Red Devils travel to face Ipswich Town.

Having been appointed as Erik ten Hag’s permanent successor earlier this month, the 39-year-old officially took charge of United during the international break and will now take his side to East Anglia for his first match in charge.

Amorim takes over a side languishing in 13th place in the table, after recording their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.

The Portuguese will be desperate to turn his side’s fortunes around as quickly as possible, and with that in mind it appears that United could be considering a move for a Championship youngster.

As per GiveMeSport, the Manchester outfit are contemplating a January move for Sunderland teenager Chris Rigg, in an attempt to fight off competition for his signature.

Rigg has attracted interest from several clubs including Manchester United

The 17-year-old midfielder made his debut for the Black Cats in January last year at the age of 15, and has now played 40 times for the North East club across all competitions.

Rigg has been particularly impressive this season, missing just one Championship game so far for Regis Le Bris’ side, who sit top of the second tier.

The report claims that United have serious interest in the teenager, and they are therefore considering launching a bid to sign him when the transfer reopens in January.

Rigg is contracted to Sunderland until 2027, and the Black Cats will be understandably reluctant to allow the youngster to leave midway through the season.

It is claimed that Sunderland could demand as much as £30 million to sell the midfielder, who has scored three goals this season.

Despite United’s interest, the report suggests that the player himself is more inclined to leave Sunderland and take on a fresh challenge at the end of the season, rather than leaving the Stadium of Light midway through the current campaign.
