Ruben Amorim will hope to see his Manchester United side return to winning ways when they face Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Red Devils were beaten 1-0 by Wolves in their last outing and currently sit 14th in the Premier League standings.

With just five matches remaining, United’s only route into European competition next term would be by winning the Europa League next month.

La Liga giants Athletic Bilbao stand in their way in the semi-finals, though, before a potential meeting with Tottenham Hotspur if they reach the final.

This summer could be a busy one at Old Trafford with plenty of incomings and outgoings expected.

Now, it has emerged that United are chasing a prolific Premier League striker.

As reported by CaughtOffside, United are exploring a potential move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Mateta has been in fine form for Palace this term

The Frenchman has been in fine form for the Eagles this term, netting his 17th goal of the season during their 2-2 draw against Arsenal at The Emirates on Wednesday.

It is claimed that United have identified the 27-year-old as one of a number of possible targets as they look to bolster Amorim’s squad during the upcoming transfer window.

Mateta joined Palace on loan from German side Mainz in 2021 before making the move permanent the following year.

In total he has played 146 times for the London side across all competitions, scoring 46 goals and registering ten assists.

Mateta is under contract at Selhurst Park until the end of next season, but the report suggests that Palace are already lining up potential replacements for the Frenchman in case he does depart the club this summer.

Current United strikers Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have both struggled in front of goal so far this term, netting just 15 times in a combined 93 appearances.
