Manchester United’s season went from bad to worse on Sunday as they were beaten 4-1 by Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

The Red Devils have endured a torrid campaign so far and they fell behind early on against the Magpies when Sandro Tonali broke the deadlock.

Alejandro Garnacho levelled the match shortly after, but a second-half brace from Harvey Barnes, along with a Bruno Guimaraes goal, earned Eddie Howe’s side a memorable victory.

The defeat leaves United 14th in the Premier League table, with winning the Europa League their only realistic hope of qualifying for European football next term.

Away from the action, it appears that the Manchester side are eyeing an audacious move for an England international.

According to Fichajes via GiveMeSport, United are preparing a significant offer for Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers this summer.

Rogers is a target for Manchester United

The Englishman is enjoying a fine season with the Villans, and the report suggests that United are set to make an offer of £70 million to sign him this summer.

Rogers, 22, joined Villa from Championship side Middlesbrough in January last year, and has since played 62 times for the club across all competitions.

In total he has scored 17 goals, as well as registering 13 assists for Unai Emery’s side.

Rogers is under contract at Villa Park until the end of the 2029/30 season, and the report suggests that the club will be very reluctant to lose such a key player this summer.

Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City are also said to be interested in the England international, while French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also credited with an interest and are said to have explored a move during the recent January transfer window.

It is claimed that head coach Ruben Amorim and those in charge of United are keen to make Rogers a marquee signing this summer.
