Man United manager Jose Mourinho is looking to move in on Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez as he continues his Old Trafford overhaul, according to reports from ESPN FC.

The Uraguay international, who has made just four appearances in all competitions for the Spanish side this season, could be the answer to Mourinho’s supposed problems at the back, which he has bemoaned on more than one occasion this season.

The 21-year-old, who has been rated at around £34m, has however, been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal to link up with the Special One’s long-term adversary Arsene Wenger.

The United boss is currently without first choice pairing Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly through injury, but could lose Bailly for even longer due to the African Cup of Nations.

The Red Devils have also been linked with a move for the impressive Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk as well as Bayern Munich man David Alaba, as the Portuguese looks to overhaul his squad.
