Manchester United suffered yet another defeat as they were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton put the Magpies in a commanding early lead, and Ruben Amorim’s side were unable to stage a fightback.

The result – United’s fifth loss in their last six Premier League matches – leaves the Red Devils 14th in the Premier League table.

United sit closer on points to the relegation zone than they are to fifth-placed Newcastle, and Amorim will be desperate to ensure his side turn things around in the new year.

With the January transfer window reopening on Wednesday, it has emerged that United face stiff competition from one of their biggest rivals for the signing of a Premier League full-back.

As per CaughtOffside, Premier League leaders Liverpool are set to rivals Manchester United for the signing of Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

The report claims that the Reds have identified the Hungarian defender as a possible long0term replacement for Andy Robertson.

Kerkez is enjoying a superb season at Bournemouth

It is also claimed that the Cherries value the 21-year-old, who only joined the club from AZ Alkmaar last summer, at around £50 million.

Both United and Liverpool are on the hunt for a new left-back and the report suggests that they have both identified a number of the same players as possible transfer targets.

Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, Fulham’s Antonee Robinson, and Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras – who previously played for Man United – are all touted as possible options.

Kerkez has been in fine form for the Cherries this term, starting all 19 of the south coast club’s Premier League matches so far.

He is under contract until the summer of 2028, but Bournemouth will likely face a battle to keep hold of the Hungary international beyond next summer with several clubs believed to be interested in signing him.
