The excitement surrounding Euro 2020 went up a notch on Monday as two more sides went crashing out of the competition on the most dramatic day of action so far.

Croatia looked to have given themselves hope of progressing when they fought back from 3-1 against Spain to draw 3-3, but Luis Enrique’s side eventually prevailed, running out 5-3 winners after extra-time.

That result meant France played Switzerland knowing that a win would set up a quarter-final tie with the Spaniards on Friday.

The match didn’t disappoint as France fell behind, before going 3-1 up with 15 minutes left.

The Swiss then staged a dramatic late comeback, rescuing a 3-3 draw in the 90th minute and, after a goalless 30 minutes of extra-time, Kylian Mbappe saw his spot-kick saved in the shoot-out and the reigning world champions were dumped out of the tournament.

On what was a bitterly disappointing night for France, it appears that one of their midfielders may also have ruined his chances of securing a move to the Premier League.

Rabiot was used in an unfamiliar role against Switzerland by France manager Deschamps.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United sent a scout to the game to watch Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The report suggests that Rabiot, who was deployed as a makeshift left wing-back in an experimental line up by Didier Deschamps, could be on his way out of Turin after just a year with the club.

The 26-year-old was part of the Juventus side who disappointed last season in Serie A, missing out on the league title and narrowly securing Champions League football.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is rumoured to be keen on signing a midfielder, with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba both often preferred in an advanced role.

It is believed that Soskjaer wishes to sign a player capable of playing a more defensive, holding role.
