Manchester United welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford on Sunday, with Ruben Amorim’s side having won just one of their last three Premier League games.

The Red Devils produced a fine comeback to defeat Manchester City 2-1 last weekend, before being beaten 4-3 by Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Thursday night.

Head coach Ruben Amorim will therefore want to see his side return to winning ways against the Cherries, but the south coast side have been in good form lately and will undoubtedly provide a stern test.

In the meantime, it appears that United are set to miss out on one of their January transfer targets.

As per GiveMeSport, United are unlikely to succeed in their pursuit of Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg.

The 17-year-old has been identified by those in charge of the Red Devils’ recruitment as a transfer target, but the report claims that the Black Cats are adamant that the teenager won’t be sold next month.

Rigg is a target for Manchester United but won’t be sold this January

Rigg is a product of Sunderland’s youth academy and made his senior debut for the club as a 15-year-old.

He has now played 46 times for the North East club, and has played a pivotal role for them this season, helping Regis Le Bris’ side challenge for the Championship’s automatic promotion places.

He has missed just one of their 21 league games so far this term.

Rigg is contracted to his current side until the end of the 2026/27 season on a £1,500-per-week deal and, although he is likely to be the subject of significant interest next summer, the report claims that he is not for sale in January.

The teenager primarily plays as a central midfielder but is also capable of operating slightly further forward in an advanced midfield role.
