Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba was close to agreeing a move to rivals Manchester City but decided against the idea in fear of backlash from fans.

As per The Times, the Frenchman had agreed personal terms with the Citizens and looked likely to make the short journey across Manchester, before deciding against the move.

Pogba’s contract is set to expire this summer and United are resigned to losing the midfielder, but it appears most likely he will now move abroad.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be interested in the player, while his former club Juventus are also working on a deal.

The29-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford ever since returning to the club in 2016, but his second stint with the Red Devils is now nearing its end.

Pogba is currently injured and has therefore played his last game for United

City reportedly agreed to Pogba’s wage demands and were confident that a deal could be agreed before the France international’s u-turn.

Pep Guardiola will be in the market for a central midfielder this summer as both Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan are expected to leave the club.

United, meanwhile, are set for a huge summer overhaul once Erik ten Hag arrives to take charge of the club.

Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones and Juan Mata are all set to leave the club when their contracts expire this summer.

The Frenchman hasn’t featured for United in any of their last four games after coming off injured against Liverpool in April, and has therefore already played his final game for the club.

Pogba has scored 39 goals and provided 51 assists in 233 matches for the Red Devils.
