Ruben Amorim suffered his first defeat as Manchester United head coach as his side were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal on Wednesday.

Second-half goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba earned the Gunners a huge victory at The Emirates, keeping alive their hopes of winning the Premier League title.

Arsenal now sit seven points behind leaders Liverpool in third, while the Red Devils occupy 11th place in the standings.

A number of players have been in fine form since Amorim arrived at Old Trafford last month, including Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo.

Now, according to Football Insider, the latter is close to signing a new deal with the club.

Diallo’s current contract with United is set to expire at the end of the current season, but the report suggests that the player is in advanced talks with United about a new deal.

Diallo has been in fine form for United since Amorim’s arrival at the club

The 22-year-old joined the Red Devils from Italian side Atalanta in 2021 and has since spent time on loan at both Championship club Sunderland and Scottish outfit Rangers.

He has struggled to ever establish himself as a regular starter at Old Trafford, but that peppers to have changed since Amorim’s arrival.

The winger started Amorim’s first two league games in charge – against Ipswich Town and Everton – and registered three assists over the course of the two matches.

He was then substituted on at half-time at The Emirates on Wednesday evening.

Diallo’s current deal, due to expire next summer, does have the option for the club to extend it by a further year.

Despite this, the report claims that the two parties are close to reaching an agreement on a new long-term deal which will keep the Ivory Coast international in Manchester for the foreseeable future.

In total, Diallo has scored seven goals and registered six assists in 41 matches across all competitions for the Red Devils.
