Manchester United will hope to return to winning ways on Saturday when they face Sunderland at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were beaten 3-1 by Brentford in their last outing, and Ruben Amorim’s side have now won just two of their opening six matches of the new Premier League season.

United currently sit 14th in the the top flight table, and the ex-Sporting CP boss is under increasing pressure to turn his side’s fortunes around.

In the meantime, it has emerged that those in charge of the Manchester giants could be willing to allow Amorim to make changes to his squad in January.

As reported by CaughtOffside, United could allow forward Joshua Zirkzee to depart Old Trafford in the new year in order to free up space to sign a replacement.

Zirkzee, 24, joined United from Italian side Bologna in the summer of 2024 but has since struggled to recreate his best form in England.

In total the Dutchman has scored just seven goals in 53 appearances for the Red Devils, as well as providing three assists.

This season the ex-Bologna man has failed to start a single Premier League match for Amorim’s side, making three substitute appearances in the competition.

It is claimed that United could opt to cash in on the Netherlands international if they receive an offer in the region of £30-35 million for the striker.

Zirkzee is under contract at Old Trafford until the end of the 2028/29 season, having signed a long-term deal when joining the club last year.

While the report claims that United could look to sell Zirkzee in order to fund a move for a new signing, it is not yet clear who the club could target if they do delve into the market in January.
