Manchester United welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

The Red Devils will be managed by former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy for the match, following the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday morning.

The Dutchman was dismissed less than 24 hours after United’s 2-1 loss against West Ham United, which extended their miserable start to the campaign.

That result meant the Red Devils have won just four of their first 14 games of the season across all competitions, recording their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign after also breaking that record last term.

Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim is the early favourite to succeed Ten Hag, and it has since emerged that one of United’s key players is pleased with the board’s decision.

As per CaughtOffside, midfielder Bruno Fernandes is ‘delighted’ with the club’s decision to look to appoint Amorim after parting ways with Ten Hag.

Fernandes is said to be a huge admirer of Ruben Amorim

The report suggests that the club captain is a huge admirer of 39-year-old Amorim, who has also been linked with Manchester City and Chelsea in the past.

The Portuguese has guided Sporting to five trophies, including two top flight titles, since taking charge of the club in 2020.

He is widely regarded as one of the best young managers available, and the report suggests that Fernandes, 30, is very keen to see Amorim take charge at Old Trafford.

Fernandes has scored 79 goals and provided 71 assists in 246 games for Manchester United since joining from Sporting in January 2020 – around two months before Amorim was appointed as the Portuguese club’s head coach.

He has started the new season relatively slowly, though, failing to score in any of his 13 games for United.
