Manchester United caretaker head coach Michael Carrick faces a daunting task as his side visit Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

The former midfielder was named as United’s head coach until the end of the season last week, and guided the Red Devils to an impressive 2-0 win over rivals Manchester City in his first match in charge.

United will now face a tough test, though, with the Gunners yet to lose a home match in the Premier League so far this term.

Away from the action United’s hunt for a new permanent head coach is ongoing, with several names seemingly in the frame to take charge at Old Trafford next season.

Now, it has emerged that one member of United’s squad is keen to stay put at the club despite uncertainty surrounding his future.

As per TEAMtalk, defender Harry Maguire is committed to staying at Manchester United beyond the end of the season, when his contract is due to expire.

Maguire, 32, became the most expensive defender in history when he joined the Red Devils from Leicester City back in 2019, and has since made more than 250 appearances for the club across all competitions.

The Englishman has less than six months remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford, and those in charge of the club are said to be uncertain about whether or not to renew the defender’s deal.

Maguire is said to be keen to stay put at United, however the club are believed to be reluctant to offer the player a long-term extension.

It is suggested that the club would only be willing to offer Maguire a short-term deal, most likely an initial one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.
