Holders Manchester United were knocked out of the FA Cup by Fulham at the fifth round stage on Sunday afternoon.

The Cottagers took a surprise lead at Old Trafford courtesy of Calvin Bassey’s strike in first half added time, before Bruno Fernandes levelled things up after the break.

With no more goals in extra time the match headed to a penalty shoot out, and goalkeeper Bernd Leno saved two United spotkicks to earn the Whites their place in the quarter-finals as they look to win a first ever major trophy.

For United, the Europa League is now their only chance of winning a trophy this season, as they currently sit 14th in the Premier League table.

Head coach Ruben Amorim has won just five of his 16 league games in charge, and it appears that the Portuguese is already planning some big changes for this summer.

As per The Manchester Evening News, Amorim has decided he wishes to sign a new goalkeeper this summer following a number of costly errors by current first choice Andre Onana.

Cameroonian ‘keeper Onana joined the Red Devils from Italian side Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 but has ensured an inconsistent first 18 months in Manchester.

Onana has made several costly errors during his time in Manchester

The report claims that Amorim is keen to add a new goalkeeper to his squad this summer, especially with back-up option Tom Heaton set to retire and Altay Bayindir increasingly likely to leave Old Trafford in search of more regular time.

United could therefore go on the hunt for a new first choice ‘keeper, but the report also claims that Onana himself is keen to stay put in Manchester and has no plans to leave the club.

The ‘keeper, who has kept 21 clean sheets in 87 games for United across all competitions, is under contract until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
