Defender Matteo Darmian insists it is “too early” to be thinking about potentially leaving Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window, according to Sky Italy (via calciomercato).

The 26-year-old, who is a Italy international and has won 26 caps for the Azzurri, has featured five times in all competitions for the Premier League side so far this season.

Darmian, who arrived at the Old Trafford outfit from Serie A club Torino back in July 2015 for a reported £12.7m, is largely out of favour under current boss Jose Mourinho at The Theatre of Dreams, despite playing both of United’s last two league outings against Burnley and Swansea City.

Injury to fellow right-back Antonio Valencia has seen Darmian thrown into Mourinho’s first-team plans, but his long-term future at the club is still in doubt.

Ahead of the January transfer window, Darmain told Sky Italy, “Jose Mourinho wanted to cast me out? I’ve read things like that, but I don’t think it’s true.

“I keep going on my way, working to improve and give the coach a selection headache. I’m not thinking about the transfer window, it’s still too early.”
