Two first half penalties were enough to earn Manchester United a much needed win over struggling Everton on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils welcomed the Toffees to Old Trafford off the back of successive Premier League defeats against Fulham and Manchester City, but midfielder Bruno Fernandes settled the nerves from the spot early on.

United were then awarded a second penalty before half-time, which was duly dispatched by forward Marcus Rashford.

The win keeps United sixth in the top flight table, keeping alive their slim hopes of finishing in the top four this season.

In the meantime, it appears that one of their most impressive players this season is set for a huge pay rise.

As per The Mirror, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is in line for a new contract that will treble his current wages.

Mainoo is in line for a huge pay rise

The 18-year-old is enjoying a fine breakthrough season at Old Trafford, having already made 19 appearances across all competitions so far this term.

Mainoo triggered a clause taking his wages up to £20,000-per-week when he made his tenth senior appearance for the club earlier this season, but the report claims that he is now set to earn around £60,000-per-week.

The teenager’s current deal is set to run until 2027 and, although United have the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months, the club will instead look to tie him down to a new contract until 2030.

As well as earning him a huge pay rise, the new deal will also include a number of clauses that, if triggered, will put him among the highest earners at the club in due course.

Mainoo’s impressive displays for the Red Devils have even prompted calls for him to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming international break.
