Manchester United face League Two side Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.

Last time out Erik ten Hag’s side drew 2-2 against Tottenham Hotspur, a result that leaves the Red Devils eighth in the Premier League table.

The trip to Wales to face lower league opposition will likely give Ten Hag the chance to rotate his squad, but the Dutchman will be without striker Anthony Martial after the Frenchman underwent surgery.

Martial has had surgery on a recurring groin injury and will now be out of action for around ten weeks, according to The Guardian.

It appears, though, that the France international could soon be headed for the Old Trafford exit door this summer.

According to TalkSPORT, the forward has been told that his contract will not be renewed when it expires this summer.

Martial is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery

Martial joined United from French side Monaco back in 2015 and has since made 317 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions, scoring 90 goals and providing 55 assists.

After initially being a regular for United under a string of managers, Martial has fallen out of favour over the past few seasons and was sent on loan to Spanish side Sevilla for the second half of the 2021/22 season.

The 28-year-old has made 19 appearances across all competitions so far this term, but has only started five league games.

United have struggled in front of goal so far this season, with only three sides having scored fewer than the Red Devils’ 24 Premier League goals – two of which are relegation-threatened Burnley and Sheffield United.

Despite their struggles, it appears that United are prepared to allow Martial to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires this summer, but it remains to be seen whether or not they will then look to sign a replacement striker.
