Portugal were one of the victims of two huge World Cup shocks over the weekend.

Fernando Santos’ side were eliminated from the competition at the quarter-final stage after a 1-0 defeat to Morocco, who became the first African side to ever reach the last four in doing so.

Cristiano Ronaldo was in tears after the full-time whistle, with the match almost certain to have been his last ever at the World Cup.

The ex-Manchester United man will be 41-years-old by the next tournament in North America, although Portugal do also have an array of youngster stars at their disposal.

Goncalo Ramos netted a hat-trick in Portugal’s 6-1 win over Switzerland in the las 16 and, at just 21-years-old, looks a certainty to be involved in 2026.

Another player that will continue to play a crucial role for the national side is Joao Felix, who is only 23-years-old.

The Atletico Madrid man started four of Portugal’s five games at the World Cup, but it appears that his club future may now be in doubt.

According to Spanish outlet AS via SportWitness, the forward will be allowed to leave Atletico having fallen out with manager Diego Simeone.

Felix and Portugal were knocked out of the World Cup by Morocco on Saturday

The report claims that United and French side Paris Saint-Germain were considered the frontrunners for Felix, however the former have increased their interest since the departure of Ronaldo.

The 37-year-old’s Old Trafford exit has left manager Erik ten Hag slightly short of options in attack, and United could therefore move for Felix.

Despite having cost more than £110 million when he moved to Spain from Benfica back in 2019, Atletico will not stand in the player’s way if an offer is made, although the La Liga side are unlikely to recoup the amount that they paid for the player.

As well as The Red Devils and PSG, Arsenal are also believed to be interested in Felix, who has made more than 125 appearances for his current side.

The Portuguese has scored 33 goals and provided 18 assists in that time, although he has only scored four goals so far this term.

The player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is believed to be working on a deal to take him away from the Spanish capital, with Atletico’s asking price believed to be almost £100 million.
