With the January transfer window now open, clubs across the Premier League will be working hard to complete signings before the end-of-the-month deadline.

The mid-season window provides clubs with the opportunity to bolster their squads ahead of the second half of the campaign but, equally, forces some clubs to battle in order to keep hold of their stars.

Manchester United are likely to be one of the clubs keen on adding to their current squad, with Erik ten Hag’s side having endured a tough season so far.

After nine defeats in their opening 20 Premier League matches and having been eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage, the Dutchman will be keen to bolster his squad ahead of the second half of the season.

The Red Devils are also hoping to secure the future of one of their youngest stars according to reports.

Hannibal has broken into the first team setup at Old Trafford this season

Football Insider claims that the Manchester club are set to trigger a 12-month extension in Hannibal Mejbri’s contract.

The 20-year-old joined United’s youth setup from French side Monaco back in 2019 and has since made 12 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions.

Having spent last season on loan at Championship club Birmingham City, making 41 appearances for the Blues, Hannibal has played ten times for United since returning to Old Trafford at the start of the season.

Hannibal’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current season, and United could therefore trigger an extension in order to avoid losing the player in the summer.

Despite this, it is also claimed that United could allow the player to leave on loan during the current window, although the report suggests that a decision on that front has not yet been made.
