Manchester United will hope to bounce back from their Community Shield defeat when they face Fulham in the first game of the new Premier League season on Friday evening.

The Red Devils were beaten on penalties by rivals Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday, despite taking the lead late on through Alejandro Garnacho.

Now, Erik ten Hag’s side welcome the Cottagers to Old Trafford in the new season’s curtain-raiser.

In the meantime, though, it appears that the Manchester side are currently being priced out of a move for a Ligue 1 star.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that United remain interested in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, but cannot currently afford him.

It is claimed that Ugarte, 23, is holding out for a move to Old Trafford, with the two clubs currently still in talks over a potential deal.

Ugarte is said to be keen on the idea of a move to Old Trafford

At present, though, United would either need PSG’s asking price to be lowered, or to sell a player themselves in order to raise funds for a move for Ugarte.

The Uruguay international joined the French champions last summer from Portuguese side Sporting CP.

He enjoyed an impressive debut season in the French capital, making 37 appearances across all competitions.

The Uruguayan is contracted to PSG until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but Romano claims that the French side are open to the idea of selling the player for the right price.

United have been busy so far this summer, signing Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

De Ligt and Mazraoui both joined United from German giants Bayern Munich on Tuesday, having previously worked with Ten hag during his time with Dutch side Ajax.

Full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s move to West Ham United allowed the Red Devils to complete the two moves, and Romano suggests that the club may have to sell another first team player if they are to move for Ugarte before the end of the current window.
