Manchester United travel to the south coast to face Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.

Erik ten Hag’s side beat Fulham 1-0 on Friday in the opening match of the new Premier League campaign, with debutant Joshua Zirkzee’s late goal enough to earn the Red Devils an important win.

After finishing eighth in the table last term, the United boss will hope to see his side improve on that this time around, but the Seagulls looked impressive during their opening weekend win over Everton and will undoubtedly provide a stern test for United.

Off the pitch, United continue to pursue one of their central midfield targets.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Manchester club are trying to negotiate a loan deal with an obligation-to-buy clause for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, 23.

The Uruguay international joined the French champions from Portuguese side Sporting CP last summer and made 37 appearances during his first season with the club.

Ugarte (right) joined PSG a year ago but could already be leaving the club

The midfielder has been told by Luis Enrique that he is not part of his plans for the current campaign, though, and he is therefore able to leave the French capital for the right price.

Romano claims that United have already agreed personal terms with the player, who is keen on the idea of a move to Old Trafford before the end of the window.

The player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is said to be spearheading the negotiations with PSG in an effort to reach an agreement before the transfer window slams shut for English clubs at the end of August.

Ugarte’s current contract with PSG isn’t set to expire until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but it appears increasingly likely that he could depart the club – on loan at least – this month.
