Manchester United have a potentially favourable start to the new Premier League season, facing newly-promoted Hull City and Ipswich Town in their opening two matches of the campaign.

The Red Devils will have Michael Carrick in the dugout after the Englishman was appointed as head coach on a permanent basis, having overseen an impressive run of form after taking temporary charge midway through last term.

Carrick will likely want to make changes to his squad this summer in the build up to the new season, but it has now emerged that the Manchester outfit’s proposed move for a new midfielder has collapsed.

As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man United have informed Serie A side Atalanta that they are no longer pursuing a move for midfielder Ederson.

The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time now, and it looked likely that the move would be completed.

According to Romano, though, the deal is now considered off, with United having informed their Italian counterparts that they have changed their plans.

Ederson, 27, joined Atalanta from Serie A rivals Salernitana back in 2022 and has since made a total of 180 appearances for the club across all competitions.

He wasn’t initially included in the Brazil squad for the World Cup this summer but was called-up after defender Wesley suffered an injury, but only made two substitute appearances during the tournament in North America.

The Brazil international is under contract in Bergamo until the end of the upcoming season, and Romano claims that the Italian outfit believe that Ederson has no fitness concerns and intend to integrate the midfielder back into their squad.
