Manchester United are hopeful of thrashing out a £12m January deal for Algeria internatonal forward Islam Slimani, according to The Sun.

The 13-time Premier League champions, who drew 3-3 at Newcastle United on Tuesday night, are thought to have been scouting the Sporting Lisbon striker over the course of the last two months.

The 27-year-old, who has 41 international caps for his country, has scored an impressive 17 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese outfit this season.

Slimani, who came close to signing for West Ham United during the summer, has also alerted the interest of Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri this month.
