Manchester United reportedly risk losing long-term transfer target Nicolas Gaitan to Atletico Madrid this month, according to A Bola (Through Talksport).

The 13-time Premier League champions, who visit Liverpool this Sunday, have been admirers of the Benfica midfielder over the years.

The 27-year-old, who has 12 international caps for Argentina, has scored four and assisted nine goals in 19 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese giants this season.

However La Liga side Atletico are reportedly ready to pounce for Gaitan this month, who has a whopping £34m buy-out clause, although it is understood Benfica would accept a fee of around £27m for the winger.
