With eight games remaining, both Manchester City and Liverpool know that winning each of their remaining games would secure the Premier League title.

Just a single point separates the two clubs ahead of their meeting at The Etihad next Sunday, and the game will undoubtedly go a long way towards deciding whether the trophy heads to Merseyside or Manchester.

The two sides also meet in the FA Cup semi final later this month, with a place in the final against either Chelsea or Crystal Palace up for grabs.

Aside from their cross-competition tussle for success, it now appears that City and Liverpool are also competing off the field, for the signing of Barcelona youngster Gavi.

The teenage midfield sensation has shone in La Liga this term, and has also impressed for the Spanish national side since making his debut last year.

Gavi has cemented his place in the first team at the Nou Camp.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool are believed to be interested in the midfielder, however it now appears that both clubs could miss out.

As per 90min, Barcelona are confident that Gavi will soon sign a long-term contract with the Catalan giants, putting an end to interest from the two English sides.

The report suggests that Barcelona have been working to agree an extension since the start of the year, and they are now close to doing so.

The player’s current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2023, and includes a release clause of £40 million.

That figure generated a lot of interest in the player, however his current employers now appear increasingly confident that he will instead opt to stay put in his homeland.

The player, who has also been linked with Bayern Munich, will reportedly have a £1 billion release clause included in his new deal.
