Manchester City have completed the signing of Palmeiras striker Gabriel Jesus for an initial fee of £27 million, which could rise to £31 million with add-ons.

The 19-year-old has signed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium and City fought off the likes of Barcelona to sign the young Brazilian, who will remain with his current club for the rest of 2016, before linking up with his new teammates in January 2017.

On joining the Citizens, he said: “Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world so I’m really pleased to sign. We have many great talents in the team and a fantastic manager in Pep Guardiola that I can learn so much from.”

Jesus is described as a player that can play anywhere across the front three and he has scored 26 goals in 67 first-team games for Palmeiras, and was named as the “best newcomer” in the 2015 Serie A Campeonato.
