The 24-year-old, who has 29 international caps for his country and starred for Portugal this summer as they defeated France in the final to win Euro 2016, has provided three assists in 17 appearances in all competitions for the Liga NOS outfit so far this season.

Carvalho, who came through Sporting’s youth ranks, is wanted by Citizens boss Pep Guardiola as a long-term replacement for fellow midfielder Toure, who has played just games this campaign.

The report suggests that the Portuguese ace has a buyout clause of £42m in his current contract.
