Manchester City kept alive their chances of winning the treble this season with a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Pep Guardiola’s side fell behind when Vinicius Jr opened the scoring in the first leg, before Kevin de Bruyne’s superb strike in the second half drew the visitors level in the Spanish capital.

City will welcome their Spanish opponents to The Etihad for the second leg next week with a place in the final at stake, and Guardiola’s side remain in contention to win both the Premier League and FA Cup too.

Despite what has already been a remarkable season for the Manchester outfit, it appears that the club are already planning ahead for the upcoming summer transfer window.

As per Football Insider, City are ready to focus on signing Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer.

It is claimed that City will look to sign the experienced central midfielder when the transfer window opens, following the news that Jude Bellingham is close to joining Real Madrid.

Kovacic could make a shock move to rivals Manchester City

Last week it was reported by numerous sources – including Fabrizio Romano – that the Borussia Dortmund midfielder is likely to join the Spanish giants this summer.

City had previously been linked with the England international and are hoping to sign a central midfielder this summer, but they could now look to Kovacic, with Guardiola said to be a huge admirer of the player.

The Croatia international joined Chelsea on loan from Real Madrid back in 2018 and made his move permanent the following year.

During his time in London, the 29-year-old has made 219 appearances for the Blues across all competitions and won both the Europa League and the Champions League.

He has played 35 times so far this season, but his current contract is set to expire next summer and his future at Stamford Bridge looks increasingly uncertain.

The player is believed to currently earn around £100,000-per-week, but just 16 of his 25 Premier League appearances so far this season have been starts and he has therefore been linked with a move away from the club.

German side Bayern Munich, now managed by former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel, are also said to be interested in the Croat, although Chelsea are set to hold talks with Kovacic and remain hopeful of keeping hold of the player.
