Much of the talk during this summer’s transfer window surrounded Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane, and the prospect of the England captain joining reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

Despite the window proving to be one of the most memorable in history with both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo switching clubs, the England striker’s proposed move never materialised and the 28-year-old stayed put in North London.

Pep Guardiola’s side, therefore, started the season without the Sergio Aguero replacement that he desired.

After five games, however, the Citizens have had nine different goal scorers, the most of any Premier League side.

It seems, therefore, that the league holders may be able to cope with only Gabriel Jesus as a recognised striker.

Guardiola has already employed Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres in the central role, with Jesus also used out wide.

However, it appears that Guardiola is not content with the efforts of his current crop of players, and is instead chasing one of La Liga’s most promising strikers.

According to TeamTalk, the Manchester club are keeping tabs on Real Sociedad forward Mikel Oyarzabal, after his impressive start to the new campaign.

Oyarzabal has scored four times this season including against Barcelona on the opening day

The 24-year-old, who scored 11 goals in 33 league games last term, has started the new season with four goals in his first five matches.

However, the report states that it his not just his recent form that has made City take notice, with the Premier League side having reportedly scouted the player for at least two years.

Sociedad, who are captained by the Spain international, currently sit just three points from top spot in La Liga.

Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are also amongst a number of clubs who have reportedly considered a move for Oyarzabal.

The Spaniard can play anywhere across the front line, which makes him an even more tempting prospect for Guardiola, as the City boss often rotates his squad and values versatility.

City once again proved their goalscoring capabilities on Tuesday evening, as they ran out 6-1 victors over Wycombe Wanderers in the third round of the Carabao Cup at the Etihad.
