Manchester City could complete a historic treble by beating Inter Milan in the Champions League final on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side have already lifted both the Premier League and FA Cup this season, leaving them on the brink of replicating rivals Manchester United’s famous 1999 feat.

Inter have pedigree in Europe’s top club competition, though, having won it three times previously.

Regardless of whether or not they do win the Champions League for the first time, it appears that City are already looking to bolster their squad ahead of next term.

As per 90min, City are plotting a move for RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol.

The Croatian has established himself as one of the world’s best central defenders over the past few seasons, and it appears that Guardiola is keen to add him to his squad.

Gvardiol, 21, has made 41 appearances across all competitions for Leipzig this term, and was also in fine form for Croatia as they finished third at the World Cup in Qatar last year.

Gvardiol has attracted interest from Manchester City

City already have plenty of options at centre-back – including Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and Aymeric Laporte – which could suggest that one of their current crop may be on his way out of The Etihad.

Gvardiol is currently contracted to Bundesliga side Leipzig until 2027 having signed a long-term deal when he joined the club from Dinamo Zagreb in 2021.

In total, the central defender has made 87 appearances for his current side, helping them to fourth-placed and third-placed finishes respectively  in the German top flight over the past two seasons.

City’s Premier League rivals Chelsea are also said to be interested in Gvardiol having attempted to sign him last summer, but their failure to qualify for any European competition next term will likely ruin any chance of luring him to west London.

The report claims that the player has a release clause in his current deal, worth around £100 million, that is set to become active this summer.

Despite that, Leipzig are reportedly prepared to sell him this summer for a lesser fee.
