Sunderland are reportedly set to sign Belgium international defender Jason Denayer on loan, according to Sky Sports (19:49).

The Premier League side, who currently sit 16th in the English top-flight standings after drawing 1-1 against Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday, have been linked with luring the Manchester City centre-half to the Stadium of Light for the 2016/17 campaign.

The 21-year-old, who has eight international caps for his country and was part of the Belgian squad that competed at the 2016 European Champions in France earlier this year as they reached the quarter-finals, spent last season out on loan at Galatasaray.

Denayer, who is still yet to make his first-team debut for the Citizens, provided three assists in 28 appearances for the Turkish giants.

The centre-half also enjoyed a similar loan stint with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic during the 2014/15 campaign, scoring an impressive six goals in 44 appearances for The Bhoys.

However reports tonight suggest that the Man City defender is set to join David Moyes’ Black Cats on loan, his third temporary stint away from the Etihad Stadium.
