Manchester City are reportedly ready to stump up £50m in a bid to sign Netherlands international star Virgil van Dijk, according to the Daily Mail.
The Premier League side, who head into the Christmas period third in the English top-flight standings after back-to-back wins over Watford and Arsenal respectively, have been linked with a move for the Southampton defender during next month’s transfer window.
The 25-year-old, who has 12 international caps for his country, has scored two goals in 24 appearances in all competitions for The Saints so far this season.
Van Dijk, who arrived at St Mary’s Stadium back in September 2015 following his reported £13m switch from Celtic, is also said to be on the radar of Premier League rivals Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Everton.
Having kept just three clean sheets in 17 league fixtures this term, City boss Pep Guardiola is determined to bolster his defensive options in the New Year and are ready to make the Dutchman their second most expensive player of all-time, behind Kevin De Bruyne (£54m).
