Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is set to revive his interest in Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte in the summer window as he looks to continue his overhaul, according to reports from The Mirror.
The former Barcelona manager was chasing the 22-year-old in the summer window, however, the France U21 international snubbed a £39m move to the Premier League and signed a new deal.
According to The Mirror’s report, the Sky Blues manager feels that a deal for Laporte would represent significantly better value than any he could engineer for 25-year-old Southampton defender, Virgil van Dijk, who was valued at up to £60m in the January window.
The Saints managed to hold onto their key man but a potential three month lay-off could mean they get a much lower price for the Dutchman in the summer.
The Bilbao academy graduate has been a mainstay for the club, prompting them to add a £55m release clause to the deal he penned in the summer.
