Manchester City will be hoping to complete a remarkable treble by beating Inter Milan in the Champions League final on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side have already won both the Premier League and FA Cup this season and have the chance to replicate Manchester United’s 1999 treble by beating Inter in Istanbul.

If they are victorious, City would also be winning Europe’s top club competition for the first time ever, having been beaten by Chelsea during their only previous final appearance in 2021.

In the meantime, though, it appears that one of City’s stars will be on his way out of the club very soon.

According to Football Insider, full-back Joao Cancelo has been told that his career with the club is over.

The Portugal international had played a key role for Guardiola’s side over the past few seasons, but he was loaned out to Bayern Munich in January after reportedly falling out with the Spaniard.

Cancelo’s spell in Bavaria has now ended, but Guardiola has reportedly decided that he wants the full-back gone in the coming weeks.

Cancelo has spent the past five months on loan at Bayern Munich

The 29-year-old originally joined City from Italian side Juventus in 2019 and made 128 appearances across his first three seasons at The Etihad.

He also started 16 of City’s first 20 Premier League games this season, but things turned sour in January and the Portuguese was loaned to Bayern.

During his time in Germany Cancelo made 21 appearances across all competitions and helped the club to the Bundesliga title, but he now faces an uncertain future having returned to his parent club.

The player’s loan deal with Bayern is believed to have included an option-to-buy clause with a fee set at £61.5 million, but Bayern are said to have no intention of keeping hold of Cancelo.

The defender therefore faces an extremely uncertain future, with his contract with City set to run until 2027.

City must therefore find a club willing to sign the player permanently, although that could prove tricky due to his high wages.
