With the dust still settling after arguably the most memorable transfer window in history, talk is already turning to January, and the number of possible deals that could happen in the new year.

For clubs competing on all fronts, the mid-season window provides the opportunity to bolster the ranks ahead of a demanding second half of the season.

The following summer, however, promises to be even more significant, with a number of high profile players expected to move clubs ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The likes of Erling Braut Haaland, whose £64 million release clause is activated next year, will be widely anticipated to make a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs, with a number of teams in England, Spain and Italy all linked.

Kylian Mbappe is another star expected to make a big money move, with Real Madrid most likely to prise him away from current club Paris Saint-Germain.

Another player who is expected to leave his current employers next summer is Robert Lewandowski, who revealed his intentions in August.

The 33-year-old reportedly told current club Bayern Munich of his desire to leave when his contract expires next June, and Manchester City have since emerged as potential suitors.

As reported by German outlet BILD, the Polish international’s agent, Pini Zahavi, believes the Citizens could be Lewandowski’s next destination.

The Bayern striker, who broke the record for most  goals in a single Bundesliga campaign last season, has been suggested as an alternative to Harry Kane, who City tried and failed to sign during the summer.

City boss Pep Guardiola has already worked with the Polish striker during his time in charge of Bayern, and it is understood that the Spaniard would be welcome to the idea of signing his former player.

Lewandowski is among the favourites to win this year’s Ballon d’or award

Lewandowski has spoken of his intent to play at least four more seasons as the top level, making him a potentially attractive prospect for City, despite his age.

The former Borussia Dortmund man has scored a staggering 307 goals in 339 games for his current side, making him one of the most prolific goal scorers in world football.

He has also started this season in his usual prolific form, scoring 13 times in his first ten matches.

Bayern, however, are reluctant to let the player leave despite his expiring contract, and chairman Herbert Hainer has insisted that he ‘can imagine Robert staying beyond 2023’.

City chased Spurs striker Kane all summer, but their pursuit was ultimately in vain as the England captain announced he was to stay put.

Despite failing to sign the striker he desired, Guardiola’s side have started the season strongly and sit just two points from top spot.
