Manchester City host rivals Manchester United in Sunday afternoon’s Manchester derby with both sides looking to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

Having been the early pacesetters, City’s league campaign has collapsed and they now face a fight to finish fourth – they are just two points clear of fifth-placed West Ham and five ahead of United.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have recovered from three straight losses to win one and draw one of their last two matches, plus have progressed to the Champions League quarter-finals this week.

Louis van Gaal’s men took a break from league action last weekend, playing out a 1-1 draw with the Hammers in their FA Cup last-eight tie – they now face a replay at the Boleyn Ground.

The Red Devils were also in Europa League action against Liverpool on Thursday, having lost the first leg 2-0.

Their last league outing produced a 1-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion a fortnight ago – Juan Mata’s early red card means he will miss Sunday’s encounter.

Team News:

Citizens captain Vincent Kompany limped off during City’s goalless draw with Dynamo Kiev during the week and will miss the match – he is expected to be out for at least a month.

Fellow defender Nicolas Otamandi (Knee) was also substituted because of an injury that game – he faces a late fitness test.

Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (Knee ligament) remains absent, as does Fabian Delph (Calf); but right-back Bacary Sagna could be recalled to the starting line-up.

Meanwhile for the Red Devils; central midfielder Mata misses out for the visitors through suspension, but Van Gaal’s injury list is slowing easing up.

However, skipper Wayne Rooney (Knee) and winger Ashley Young (Groin) remain absent alongside Phil Jones (Ankle) and Will Keane (Groin).
