Name: John Stones
Manchester City are well in with a chance of winning their third title in five years, but, in some people’s opinion, they should already be well clear in a season that has sprung many surprises.
Due to the sums of money they have, plus the recent additional funds gained through a Chinese investment, it’s hard to pick one player which would sit top of the club’s January wishlist, mainly because they could sign almost anyone.
However, when Vincent Kompany has not played, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have looked woeful in defence and, despite spending over £60 million on Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Managala, could really do with another centre-back.
Everton’s highly-rated John Stones is a wanted man and would seem like the ideal signing for the Citizens. But with the Toffees chasing European football and having turned down £40 million from Chelsea in the summer, it would take an eye-watering bid for the Merseysiders to even contemplate letting their 21-year-old star depart halfway through the season.
